Intermediate/ Advanced Classes: Who is the program offered to?
There will be (1) intermediate/advanced class offered to K-12th graders.
Location: Outdoors in the Community Room @ CP Pool.
Beginner Class K-12th: Mondays, from 4:00pm-4:50pm, once a week for 6 weeks, 9/27-11/1.
Intermediate/Advanced Class K-12th: Mondays, from 5:00pm-5:50pm, once a week for 6 weeks, 9/27-11/1.
Fees: $50.00 for Princeton Residents.
Due to space limitations and capacity, this program is open to Princeton Residents only at first. If space allows, we will open it to NR.
The class teaches students how to correctly place pieces on the board to set up a game of chess and know the legal moves of each piece, teaches the rules of the game, basic strategy, elementary opening concepts, recognition of tactical themes, calculation of material exchanges, and elementary endgame knowledge. This class is for students who have just started chess and are looking for a first-time experience.
The class teaches students advanced tactical ideas, in-depth opening theory, recognition of tactical themes, advanced endgame knowledge, and gives students a more complex understanding of the game. This class is for students who have a complete understanding of the game but are looking to further themselves.
Nicholas Thomas is an enthusiastic chess player and current member of the Dean of Chess Academy - Elite Level (my current USCF rating is 1635). He also participates in regular local chess tournaments and even played in Chess Nationals this year where he placed 19th across all eleventh graders nationally!
