Engineering Department
The Engineering Department is responsible for the following municipal operations:
- Planning, designing, and overseeing construction of capital improvements and enhancements to municipal roadways, traffic signals, storm sewers, sanitary sewers when part of a road project, and pedestrian and bicycle facilities.
- Preparation of municipal mapping information
- Supervision of private property owner/developer compliance with planning/zoning board requirements and applicable ordinances
- Preparation of tax maps
- Coordination of public utility infrastructure work in the Princeton public right-of-way
- Issuance and inspection of road opening permits and right-of-way occupancy permits
- Preparation of floodplain certifications
- Oversight of the Princeton freeB transit service
- Coordination with other Municipal, County, State, and Federal agencies including but not limited to:
- Mercer County
- Mercer County Soil Conservation District
- Montgomery Township
- New Jersey (NJ) Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP)
- NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT)
Coordination with Boards & Committees
The Engineering Department works through coordination with the following Boards and Committees:
- Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee
- Planning Board
- Public Transit Advisory Committee
- Sewer Operating Committee
- Zoning Board of Adjustment
