Beginner Classes: Who is the program offered to?

There will be a beginner class offered to rising K-12th graders. All programs are open to Princeton Residents at first, and if space allows, will open up to Non-Residents.

Intermediate/ Advanced Classes: Who is the program offered to?

There will be an intermediate/advanced class offered to rising K-12th graders. All programs are open to Princeton Residents at first, and if space allows, will open it up to Non-Residents. 

Days/Dates/Times/Location/Fees

Location: Community Room in the Municipal Building or CP Pool

Beginner Class: Once a week, on Wednesdays,  from 4:00pm-5:00pm, for 8 weeks, 10/18-12/13.  NO CLASS 11/22

Intermediate/Advanced Class: Once a week, on Wednesdays,  from 5:15pm-6:15pm, for 8 weeks, 10/18-12/13.  NO CLASS 11/22

Fees: $210.00 for Princeton Residents 

          $240.00 for Non-Residents

Beginner Class:

This class is for students who are new or relatively new to chess. The class covers all rules, basic checkmates, simple chess tactics and basic opening principles.  Min 10 Max 20

Intermediate/Advanced Class:

This class is for students who know and understand at least some basic checkmates and tactics. It covers more advanced tactical themes, openings, endgames, and the most instructive games and players. International Master Ippolito’s most recent book Tricks, Traps, and Tips in The Chess Opening will help highlight key opening ideas.  Min 10 Max 20

Chess Instructor: 

Dean Ippolito is an International Master, and the current NC State Champion, as well as a 6-time NJ State Champion.  Dean also won the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1992.  He is not only known for his playing prowess, though.  Dean was also awarded the "Chess Teach of the Year" award - by the NJ Chess Federation - in 2006.  He has also authored six books on chess strategy as well, his most-recent book being Tricks, Traps and Tips in the Chess Opening.
