Update January 27, 2022: The mask-mandate that went into effect on January 13, 2022, will sunset at 12:00 am on January 31, 2022. The order will not be extended due to the rapid decline in cases.
As we have observed throughout the pandemic, during surges in cases due to new variants, the community must come together and utilize scientifically-backed precautions such as physical distancing and mask-wearing. The best defense against severe health complications from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated and stay up to date with booster doses.

January 10, 2022: Due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, Princeton Office of Emergency Management and Mayor Mark Freda have declared a State of Emergency and mandated mask-wearing to all citizens and persons within the Municipality effective 5 am January 13, 2022In order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the people of Princeton, the Mayor and Office of Emergency Management have issued a Declaration of State of Emergency to all citizens and persons within the Municipality of Princeton due to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant.
Effective at 5:00 a.m., on Thursday, January 13, face coverings will be required in public indoor spaces including restaurants, bars, gymnasiums, dance studios, recreation facilities, retail stores, cafes, supermarkets, convenience stores, places of worship, commercial establishments, salons, barbershops, banks, healthcare facilities, hotels, and government buildings and facilities.
Employees and patrons must wear a face mask at all times except when actively eating or drinking, when socially distanced at least six feet apart from all others for an extended period of time, and when performing for an audience or worship service. Individuals with a medical condition that precludes the wearing of face coverings and children under the age of three are exempt from the requirement. Establishments will be required to post signage notifying patrons of the requirement. The order will remain in effect until 12:00 a.m., on January 31, unless modified or extended by further order.
