On Nov. 4, 2022, Governor Murphy enacted a law that will ban plastic bags, polystyrene foam containers and makes plastic straws available by request only. The disposable bag ban goes into effect on May 4, 2022.  This law will encourage the use of reusable bags and phase out single-use plastic and paper bags at grocery stores, measuring more than 2,500 square feet, and retail outlets.

Complaints in regards to plastic bags and polystyrene foam containers should be referred to the Mercer County Division of Public Health, 609-278-7165.

For more information on the ban on single-use carryout bags, ban on polystyrene foam food products and plastic straws by request only, please visit the NJ DEP Get Past Plastic website
